- Guard the back row: Keep your back rank pieces in place for as long as possible. Leaving them on their starting squares prevents your opponent from sneaking a piece into your territory to create early Kings.
- Dominate the board center: Pieces resting along the outer edges have only one diagonal move available, whereas pieces controlling central squares can exert pressure in multiple directions and create branching paths.
- Sacrifice for advantageous trades: Giving up a single piece to lure an opponent into a vulnerable square can set up a lucrative double or triple jump that swings the match in your favor.
